BUTTERWORTH: A 41-year-old man was arrested after offering a bribe to a police officer at a Tasek Gelugor roadblock on Monday (June 28).
North Seberang Prai OCPD Asst Comm Noorzainy Mohd Noor said the incident happened around 3.30pm at the Jalan Kampung Selamat roadblock.
“The man attempted to cross with an expired Miti letter. When the matter was later directed to the police officer supervising the roadblock, the man attempted to bribe the supervisor with an RM50 note,” said ACP Noorzainy.
He added that the police officer had warned the man three times but the man then slipped the money into the expired Miti letter and tried to hand it over.
ACP Noorzainy said the man was then arrested and handed over to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for further investigations.
“The RM50 note, expired Miti letter and his mobile phone were also confiscated. He was issued an RM5,000 compound notice for attempting interstate travel without permission.
ACP Noorzainy said that the police will not compromise with individuals for personal gains.
