KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 22 premises used for illegal gambling have been raided in Cheras since Jan 1.

Cheras OCPD Asst Comm Muhammad Idzam Jaafar said 25 suspects were also arrested in Ops Dadu during the same period.

"We took action by cutting off the electricity supply to 21 of those premises under Section 21A of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953.

"With the cooperation of Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), we detached the electrical meter and fuse box (to each of the premises)," he said when met during the operation at Taman Maluri on Tuesday (Feb 15).

ACP Muhammad Idzam said previously, only the fuse box was detached.

New tenants would subsequently have to get police permission prior to renting the premises.

"Since Jan 1, we also seized four tablets, 12 mobile phones, 100 computers and RM1,626 cash during Ops Dadu," he added.

He urged those with information on illegal gambling activities to contact the police.

"While we are conducting operations, we still need the cooperation from members of the public to curb this illegal activity," he said.
