KUALA LUMPUR: A law enforcement officer has been arrested by police in connection with a crime involving losses of at least RM700,000.
Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Noor Dellhan Yahaya confirmed this saying: “As of now, we have arrested two individuals including the officer.
“We have called up 12 others to record their statements,” he said yesterday.
He said the officer has been remanded for four days while the other suspect has been remanded for three days.
It was reported on Sunday that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) said that an officer from the commission was detained by the police to assist in investigations into a gang robbery case last Friday in Kuala Lumpur.
In a statement, MACC said it had fully cooperated with the police to track down the officer and handed him over to the enforcement agency on Saturday afternoon.
MACC said in the statement that it would not compromise or protect any officer involved in any criminal conduct.
“Strict action including charges in court and disciplinary action with dismissal will be imposed if the officer was involved,” said the statement.
