KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman's Special Investigations Unit has taken over the case where a number of Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers were allegedly involved in a gang robbery involving RM700,000 in losses.
Federal CID director Comm Datuk Seri Abd Jalil Hassan confirmed that two more MACC officers were arrested.
"The case is being investigated by the Special Investigations Unit under Section 395 of the Penal Code for gang robbery.
"The two officers arrested are aged 37 and 39 years old, respectively, and have been remanded until Dec 19 to help with investigations," he said in a statement on Thursday (Dec 16).
He urged the public to give the police space to conduct a transparent and fair investigation.
"The investigation papers will be referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutors officer soon," he said.
This brings the number of MACC officers arrested in connection with the case to three so far.
The anti graft watchdog confirmed the arrests via a statement on Thursday.
"The Commission has given full cooperation to the police in its investigations into a crime involving MACC officers.
"We confirm that we have helped the police by surrendering two more officers to help with investigations," the statement read.
It added that the Commission would not compromise with or protect any officers involved in crime, and urged that investigations be expedited.
It was reported on Monday (Dec 13) that police have confirmed that a law enforcement agency officer had been arrested in connection with a crime involving losses of at least RM700,000.
MACC stressed that it would not compromise or protect any officer involved in any criminal conduct.
"Strict action including charges in court and disciplinary action with dismissal will be imposed if he was involved," said the statement.
On Saturday, a news portal reported that two individuals, including an officer of an enforcement agency, were arrested by the police after they were suspected of being involved in a gang robbery at a house in Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur, which involved a loss of almost RM1mil.
