A GREEN homes revolution could create more than 138,000 jobs, slash energy bills and pump nearly £10billion into the UK economy, experts say.

Fuel poverty could be cut and the NHS may save millions if ministers roll out a proper scheme to insulate the nation's homes and swap out dirty gas boilers.

It's expected that ministers will soon reveal fresh cash for Brits to make the green swaps

Boris Johnson is due to reveal his long-awaited heating and building strategy to the nation in weeks, detailing exactly how to make the nation's homes greener and warmer.

Last night he told the UN in New York he was "still grappling over how to get rid of gas-powered boilers".

A report by Cambridge Econometrics for Greenpeace says that the economy and jobs would see a mega boost by 2030 if it rolled out a proper system, with grants to cover the costs for cash-strapped Brits.

Savings to the NHS from warmer homes could be up to £848mn annually.

It's expected that ministers will soon reveal fresh cash for Brits to make the swaps, and set a deadline for banning the sale of new gas boilers.

Around £4,000 will be offered for Brits to swap over, or a heat pump matched with the current price of replacing a boiler.

Britain's leaky, dirty homes are responsible for a huge chunk of the UK's emissions, which the PM has vowed to slash to zero by 2050.

Greenpeace UK’s policy director, Doug Parr, said: "The simple fact is, the government’s current plan to decarbonise homes won’t cut emissions enough to meet its own legally binding climate commitments or tackle the climate crisis.

"A more ambitious plan, which will sufficiently slash emissions from homes, could create many thousands of new jobs right across the country and pump billions into the economy. This should be music to the Prime Minister and Chancellor’s ears.

“Rishi Sunak will be shooting himself in the foot if he fails to deliver the required extra £12bn to green our homes next month."
