Memphis police respond to shooting at Kroger grocery store
Memphis police officers are on the scene of a Kroger grocery store where at least a dozen people have been shot, including one who was killed.
The shooter, whose identity remains unknown, is dead of what is believed to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.
The shooting happened at 240 New Byhalia Road in Collierville, Tennessee.

Collierville Police Chief Dale Lane said officers and a SWAT team entered the grocery store going aisle to aisle to rescue employees – some of whom were hiding in the freezer.

"I've been involved in this for 34 years and I've never seen a scene like this," Lane said, calling it "the most horrific event in Collierville history."
Lane said an image circulating on social media of someone on the roof was a Kroger employee.
Emergency medical personnel from the Collierville Fire Department arrived to assist with providing medical aid. The injured victims were transferred to area hospitals.
"We are deeply saddened by the incident that occurred at our Kroger store," the company said in a statement. "The entire Kroger family offers our thoughts, prayers and support to the individuals and families of the victims during this difficult time.

The company said it has initiated counseling services for its associates. The store will remain closed during the police investigation.
Collierville High School was put on lockdown amid the shooting but that has since been lifted.

Multiple law enforcement agencies were on scene, including the Shelby County Sheriff's Office and the Memphis Police Department who helped secure the perimeter. The ATF and FBI was also assisting with the investigation.
Photos from Nashville's NewsChannel 5 showed police investigating the suspected shooter's car to make sure it's cleared of any possible booby traps. A bomb robot pulled out a box inside the car, according to the station.
MPD, the Shelby County Sheriff's Office, Kroger have referred questions to the Collierville Police Department.

The Collierville Police Department said the scene is now secure but the investigation is ongoing.
"It's going to take a little bit before we know what happened," Lane said.
Collierville is about 30 miles east of Memphis.
Tennesee's senators, Sen. Bill Hagerty and Sen. Marsha Blackburn reacted to the news on Twitter.
