KOTA KINABALU: Fourteen security guards, whose salaries and overtime pay were not paid since May last year, will have their claims settled, says Deputy Human Resources Minister Mustapha Sakmud.
He said he told the Sabah Labour Department to investigate and resolve the matter after being informed of the unpaid dues totalling about RM280,000.
“I will make sure their claims will be resolved as soon as possible. I am certain the Sabah Labour Department will do all it can to ensure the rights of all employees are met, as required by the Labour Ordinance,” he said.
It was reported on Aug 29 that the 14 security guards had tendered their resignation when their employer appeared not to comply with an order by the Labour Court to settle the claims.
Mohd Jabidi Junaidi, who acted as a spokesman for the guards, said the Labour Court had ruled in their favour on Aug 14.
In a statement yesterday, Mustapha said the security guards were based at Hospital Beaufort.
