IPOH: The Perak police has referred the case of the security guard who was assaulted by a homestay guest at a condominium here in December last year, and died on Friday (Aug 27) to the deputy public prosecutor’s (DPP) office.

Perak police chief Datuk Comm Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said the police had suggested a heavier charge against the suspect to the prosecutor’s office on Monday (Aug 30).

He said in fact when the victim passed away on Friday, the police had reclassified the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code as murder.

“We are waiting for further instructions from the prosecutor’s office.

“We view criminal activities seriously, and stern action will be taken in a fair and transparent manner against individuals or groups for disturbing the peace and safety of the people,” he added

Comm Mior Faridalathrash advised the public not to speculate in relation to the case, this as to prevent causing anxiety and anger within the community.

The 64-year-old man died at his house on Friday, and the post-mortem found that he had died due to sepsis, caused by infection in his lungs.

It was reported that the security guard had sustained head injuries during the Dec 29 incident after being assaulted by the guest following an argument.

The security guard was found by a worker at the condominium, bleeding from his head and was rushed to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in a semi-conscious state.
