Manchester shooting: Man, 20, hospitalised with 'gunshot wounds' - police rush to scene

       The victim is undergoing surgery following the incident in the inner-city area of Moss Side. Police swarmed Rosebery Street tonight and erected a cordon around several roads. At least 10 police vehicles were seen parked near the tape, including armed response vehicles, following the reported shooting.

       The cordon is in place at Rosebury Street at the junctions with Greame Street and Alison Street.

       People at the scene said officers arrived at around 8.30pm.

       A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said a man was undergoing surgery for gunshot wounds.

       They said he self-presented at a hospital with his injuries.

       They said: "At about 8.20pm today (5 July), officers were called to Rosebery Street, Moss Side, to reports of a shooting.

       "A 20-year-old man self-presented at hospital with gunshot wounds and is undergoing surgery.

       "There is a scene in place in and around Rosebery Street and there are road closures in place.

       "Enquiries are ongoing and no arrests have been made."

       The force urged anyone with information to come forward, calling 0161 856 4409 and quoting incident 2655.

       One man at the scene told the Manchester Evening News he had heard three shots being fired earlier this evening.

       At least one forensic officers was seen at the scene of the crime as police continued their investigation.

       Tonight's incident follows a shooting in Tameside, nine miles away, last Thursday.

       Residents in a quiet cul-de-sac were shaken after witnessed cars being driven erratically around the area before hearing two loud shots.

       The incident happened at around 7.40pm.

       Police confirmed they uncovered evidence of a firearm discharge in nearby Gardenfold Avenue near the junction with Market Street.

       And just before 1am last Thursday a young man was stabbed at a bus stop in Chadderton, six miles from Moss Side.

       Police and paramedics rushed to the scene where they found a 26-year-old man suffering from knife wounds.

       Greater Manchester Police said the stabbing happened on Bentley Street.

       Bus company First said the bus driver witnessed a blood-soaked man staggering towards the vehicle as he drove on Middleton Road.

       The driver immediately offered the victim assistance, helping him onto the bus before calling an ambulance.
