KUALA LUMPUR: Police have opened investigations into a viral video of police personnel brandishing handcuffs from the driver’s side window of an unmarked police car.

The three-minute long video is believed to be dashcam footage from a vehicle travelling in the right lane along Jalan Tun Razak here.

A car from the left attempts to merge into the lane but the original vehicle does not give way.

The driver’s side window of the other car is wound down as it approaches the vehicle and the driver swings an object resembling handcuffs and he cuts in front of the vehicle.

Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Noor Dellhan Yahaya said they have opened a police inquiry paper into the incident.

“We have already taken statements from six individuals in connection with the case.

“Once our inquiry into the incident is completed, we will refer it to the Deputy Public Prosecutor’s office for further instruction,” he said when contacted on Wednesday (Feb 16).

He said the video of the incident was uploaded on Feb 13 by Facebook user ViralMeletop.

“The video shows an alleged misunderstanding involving two motorists,” he said, adding that Dang Wangi CID is tracing the individuals involved.

He urged the public not to speculate on the case and allow police to investigate the matter transparently and thoroughly.

Those with information on the case can contact the Dang Wangi police hotline at 03-2600 2222 or the City Police hotline at 03-2115 9999.
