PETALING JAYA: Pet owners should be careful after a dog was electrocuted while walking in the Alam Damai Recreation Park in Cheras on Tuesday (April 5).
“My parent's dog died suddenly during their usual evening walk in the park,” said 31-year-old Hazel Chee in a Facebook post in which she added that pet owners should avoid walking their dog in the rain or after rain.
She said that her father Jonathan Chee had told her that his pet dog Skinny started hopping and shouting when they walked him around 8.30pm after rain in the area.
“My wife thought that he was bitten by creatures like snakes or insects, but he collapsed from cardiac arrest soon after. I felt some current when I touched him. I tried to resuscitate him but failed,” said the 58-year-old businessman.
Jonathan added that Skinny was not able to escape as he was leashed. Their friend who worked as a vet dropped by and she confirmed the death of Skinny.
The pet owner advised the local authority to carry out maintenance occasionally to avoid such incidents, adding that a suspected short-circuiting underground cable was reported to the authority last year.
In the post, Hazel also advised parents to be cautious after this incident as children might run around with bare feet.
