PETALING JAYA: Hannah Yeoh’s act of donning a headscarf at a mosque is an action any responsible and professional MP would do, says Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said.
The Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker said the Segambut MP had served her constituency and respected mosque etiquette.
"After 64 years of Merdeka, are we not ashamed to still resort to hateful politics using race and religion? Enough la!" the Umno supreme council member tweeted on Sunday (Dec 5).
Yeoh was recently criticised for donning a headscarf while visiting a mosque, with former Johor DAP chief Dr Boo Cheng Hau describing it as a "superficial gimmick" that would not bring long-term benefit to the party.
Yeoh had explained her actions, saying that covering one’s head in a place of worship is a sign of respect and modesty.
