PETALING JAYA: Fatigue of health workers may be the reason for recent cases where allegedly empty syringes were used during the vaccination process, says Deputy Health Minister Datuk Dr Noor Azmi Ghazali.

"If they are tired but keep going, they will be unproductive at work and not be at their best," he was quoted as saying by Utusan Malaysia on Wednesday (July 21).

He said that healthcare workers have been working tirelessly since the pandemic started last year and should not remain silent if they are exhausted.

He added those who feel tired should inform their superiors and take a short break before resuming work.

He was commenting on allegations of empty syringes being used during vaccinations involving three incidences which are currently under police probe.

"If the mistake occurred due to fatigue, healthcare workers should rest.

"However, if it was intentional, it is a cruel act and action should be taken if it is proven to be true," he said.

So far, disciplinary action has been taken over a recent case involving a drive-through vaccination centre in Sungai Petani, Kedah.

He added that the vaccination programme is a serious matter, as it involves lives.
