KUALA LUMPUR: Maju Healthcare, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Maju Group has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Malaysian Association of Hotels (Kedah & Perlis Chapter) (MAH K&P) to facilitate safe travel and spur the growth of the tourism sector.

The MoU marks a partnership between Maju Healthcare and 33 hotels under MAH K&P in Langkawi.

“Via the MoU, Maju Healthcare in collaboration with its medical partner, Global Doctors, and laboratory partner, Gribbles Pathology, will provide exclusive on-site Covid-19 monitoring and care support services for hotels, for travellers that have tested positive for Covid-19 and need to undergo quarantine at the respective hotels,” it said in a joint statement.

“This includes a review of the hotels’ operational flow in managing positive patients, identifying risk points as well as a recommendation in enhanced flow of patient management,” it added.

Maju Healthcare will also be rendering PCR testing services and doctor consultation for patients up to stage-2 symptoms.

For patients escalating to stage-3 symptoms, Maju will manage the handover process to the district health office.

Maju group managing director Datuk Aminudin Hashim said: “It is important that we continue to be vigilant as we transition into the endemic phase. We are proud to embark on this first of its kind partnership to provide our services to travellers in Kedah and Perlis via this collaboration with MAH (K&P).”

“The MoU is a result of a fruitful discussion between Maju Healthcare and MAH (K&P) in determining the best solutions as it sets the framework for our medical personnel to undertake an assessment of the hotel's readiness to implement a standard procedure in managing Covid-19 cases,” he said.

Meanwhile, MAH (K&P) chairman Eugene Dass said the partnership signified a new norm for the hotel and tourism industry.

“The uptake for our member hotels has been encouraging since the opening of the Langkawi travel bubble and we look forward to taking further steps to ensure that travellers are able to enjoy their stay in a safe and convenient manner. The MoU is an outcome of our concerns and foresight to address the need for Covid-19 care services for Langkawi,” he said.

Dass said Maju Healthcare’s expertise provided the know-how for hoteliers to ensure that their guests are comfortable and assured of the proper protocols in place, not only to mitigate but in managing potential cases.

“With tourism as the largest economic contributor to Langkawi, we are pleased that we have this partnership to manage Covid-19 incidents efficiently.

“The services provided by Maju Healthcare will certainly facilitate ease of travel in line with SOPs to manage Covid-19. We are optimistic that the on-site services will create a seamless experience for travellers,” he added.
