JOHOR BAHRU: Puteri Wangsa candidate Amira Aisya says she hopes for a 'healthier' political culture in the country amidst claims that her electoral materials had been vandalised.

The Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) secretary-general said she would not back down, as she wanted to promote "mature politics" among locals.

She claimed another of her billboards was found vandalised on Saturday (March 5), days after she reported the first vandalism incident on Feb 28.

"We will lodge a police report," said Amira during a joint press conference with DAP's Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh here on Saturday (March 5).

"This is exactly why I joined politics – which is to ensure that these behaviours aren't normalised.

"We hope to have a healthier political fight in Puteri Wangsa," she said.

In Puteri Wangsa, Amira is locked in a six-cornered fight between Parti Pejuang Tanah Air's Dr Khairil Anwar Razali, Perikatan Nasional's Loh Kah Yong, Parti Bangsa Malaysia's Steven Choong, Barisan Nasional's Ng Yew Aik and Independent candidate Adzrin Adam.

Puteri Wangsa has 112,804 registered voters.

In the 14th General Election in 2018, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia's Mazlan Bujang won under a Pakatan Harapan ticket after garnering 37,545 votes against Umno's 12,586 votes, PAS' 2,654 votes, and two independents who garnered 544 and 116 votes respectively.

Mazlan will not be defending the Puteri Wangsa seat.

Polling for the Johor state election is set on March 12.
