PETALING JAYA: Selangor's Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has expressed his sadness and grief over the floods that have hit the state following heavy downpours recently.
"I was informed that many locations are affected and cut off due to flooded roads, as well as residential areas hit by unusual floods," he said in a statement on Sunday (Dec19).
He said he had seen pictures and videos of affected areas and was also worried and concerned about the difficulties faced by the people.
"I was moved to see the spirit of cooperation shown by community members and support groups who are helping each other.
"I want the responsible authorities to expedite assistance to all affected areas," he said, adding that he had also directed that the Selangor Zakat Board continue providing assistance to flood relief centres and identify those in need of critical help.
He also called for a more comprehensive action plan to be updated, especially when faced with unexpected weather phenomena so quick action can be taken as well as for the welfare and well-being of the people.
