Heaven nightclub near Charing Cross Station was evacuated after police were alerted. Specialist units were deployed to carry out a search of the area.

       A Met Police spokesperson said: "At 9.15pm on Friday, July 23, police received a report of a possible suspicious item at a nightclub in Villiers Street, WC2.

       "Specialist officers attended and carried out a thorough search.

       "Nothing suspicious was found and the report was deemed a hoax.

       "Road closures in the area have been lifted."

       At 10.43pm, David Wylie wrote on Twitter: "Area around Heaven and Charing Cross station is being evacuated to due to a threat."

       He added: "Police have extended the perimeter down to Embankment."

       The cordon is no longer in place.
