IPOH: Everyone must continue to follow all Covid-19 standard operating procedures and preventive measures so that this year’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri can be celebrated safely and joyfully, says the Sultan of Perak.

The people, added Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, should not neglect these health practices and preventive measures, which could lead to a disruption in the celebrations.

“For two years, Muslims did not get the chance to celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri with their family members.

“It is my hope and wish that there will again be the joy of celebrating the festivities in a lively and cheerful atmosphere,” the Sultan said in a statement after chairing the Dewan Negara Perak at Istana Iskandariah in Kuala Kangsar yesterday.

For that to happen, the Perak Ruler noted that the people, especially Muslims, needed to be careful.

“Do not neglect the health practices and preventive measures during activities throughout Ramadan,” he added.

Sultan Nazrin said that as the month of Ramadan was just around the corner, all Orang Besar Negeri, especially the Orang Besar Jajahan, needed to play an active role in helping to monitor activities in mosques as well as provide advice and guidance to minimise the risk of infection.

“I will be getting views and advice from the relevant authorities before setting guidelines and advice for the Islamic institutions, mosques and suraus,” he added.

Sultan Nazrin also pointed out that since the country would begin the transition phase to endemic for Covid-19 on April 1, the people should continue to cooperate with the government’s efforts to minimise infection and to protect the country from another wave of cases.

“The relaxation of movement will allow the people to move freely and carry out more activities.

“I do hope the people can lead a normal and joyful life, that the economy is rejuvenated and the country’s prosperity is restored,” he said.

“However, the relaxation of movement does not mean that the threat of the Covid-19 pandemic is over.

“Preventive steps as advised by the National Security Council and Health Ministry must always be followed,” Sultan Nazrin added.
