PETALING JAYA: One of the three Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers nabbed by the anti-graft agency in connection with the alleged theft of case materials amounting to more than RM25mil has been rearrested by police.

       Bukit Aman CID director Comm Datuk Seri Abd Jalil Hassan said the officer was arrested for drug and firearm possession on Sept 21.

       "The arrest was made in lieu of possessing drugs and a firearm and bullets. The suspect has been remanded until Sept 25," he said in a statement on Thursday (Sept 23).

       On Monday (Sept 21), the MACC had confirmed that three of its senior officers were arrested to assist investigations into allegations of abuse of power and malpractice in a case involving a former senior government servant who has been discharged but not acquitted by the court.

       It added that the three suspects had been remanded from Sept 14 to 19.

       "A thorough investigation is underway and we hope that all parties will not speculate on this matter as it would affect investigations,” the MACC said in a statement then.

       The trio had allegedly stolen confiscated money amounting to around US$6mil (RM25mil) that was believed to belong to former Malaysian External Intelligence Organisation (MEOI) director-general Datuk Hasanah Abdul Hamid.
