PETALING JAYA: Travellers from high-risk countries arriving at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) must wear a digital tracker device throughout the entire home quarantine period, says Khairy Jamaluddin.

       This follows after the Covid-19 variant Omicron was detected in Malaysia.

       The Health Minister said travellers from high-risk countries listed by the government under home monitoring will be subjected to enhanced surveillance.

       He said this is to ensure that the compliance to the home quarantine is complete.

       “One of the steps that we will do is to use the digital tracking device on the travellers coming from countries we deemed as high risk,” he said during a press conference on Friday (Dec 3).

       Khairy noted that they would be able to contain the virus whether it is the Omicron or Delta variant so long as everyone complies with the public health measures that are in place.

       Separately, he added that all travellers participating in the Langkawi travel bubble will have to undergo additional Covid-19 RTK-Ag testing on the third and fifth day of arrival.

       The Omicron variant was detected on Thursday (Dec 2) involving a 19-year-old South African private university student in Ipoh who arrived from South Africa through Singapore on Nov 19.
