LAHORE: The Lahore High Court was informed on Thursday that the deputy commissioner has granted permission for the Aurat March rally.

Justice Anwar Hussain was hearing a petition filed by Leena Ghani, Neelum Hussain, Fatima Jan and Shireen Umar challenging the authorities’ refusal to permit the march. They also sought contempt proceedings against the deputy commissioner.

A Punjab government law officer presented a letter in the court outlining security arrangements for the event.

The judge was informed that the Aurat March would take place on Feb 12 starting from the Lahore Press Club and concluding at Egerton Road.

The government’s counsel further stated that a letter had been issued to the relevant authorities, including the police, to ensure foolproof security for the participants in the march.

In light of the government report, the judge disposed of the petition.

Notices: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday issued notices to the federal government and other respondents on a fresh petition challenging the Prevention of Electronic Crimes (Amendment) Act 2025.

Justice Farooq Haider heard the petition filed by Federal Union of Journalists (Workers) Secretary General Raja Riaz.

Petitioner’s counsel Shahbaz Akmal argued that the amendments were introduced without consulting journalist organisations or stakeholders and were passed through a fast-track process.
