Heavy rain and thunderstorms swept over Chicagoland Wednesday evening, drenching much of the area and causing some wind damage.
Though some rain is possible for the weekend, there will be plenty of periods of dry conditions, according to the National Weather Service. However, high temperatures and humidity could make things uncomfortable.
In far west suburban Montgomery on Wednesday, there were 4.1 inches of rain. In Sugar Grove and Aurora, there were reports of up to 4 inches. There were also reports of quarter-size hail and strong winds, but most of the severe activity appeared to be isolated.
DuPage County and west Cook County also were hard hit, according to Kevin Birk, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service.
Darien and Willowbrook had 2 inches of rain. In Hinsdale, high winds peeled back roofing material on a house.

This weekend, Chicagoans can continue to expect hot and humid temperatures. The thermometer is predicted to reach the low 90s and the heat index could reach 100.
Birk says that cooler temperatures are on the way.
“There will be a cold front on Sunday evening, which is the next good chance for thunderstorms,” said Birk. “That should help cool us off into early next week back into the low to mid 80s.”
