KUCHING: Election workers have brought in more wheelchairs to the Satok Sports Complex polling centre here to cater to the needs of elderly voters.

When met outside the centre on Saturday (Dec 18) morning, Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) Satok candidate Datuk Ibrahim Baki commented that the turnout of seniors at the centre was "unexpected".

"We thought not many elderly people would come out to vote due to Covid-19 concerns.

"But the turnout was larger than expected," said Ibrahim, who had voted earlier at SK Rakyat nearby.

Ibrahim is contesting in an election for the first time, replacing the previous Satok assemblyman and GPS chairman Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, who is standing in Gedong this time.
