SARAJEVO, April 6 (Xinhua) -- The capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) celebrated the "Day of the City of Sarajevo" on Wednesday by reopening the reconstructed building of the former Bistrik Train Station.

Benjamina Karic, Mayor of Sarajevo, said she is proud to reopen the iconic building, built 116 years ago in an Alpine style, and now fully reconstructed to its full glory.

April 6 is a very important date in the history of Bosnia's capital. German Nazi forces attacked Sarajevo on that day in 1941, and the Nazi occupation ended on the same day in 1945.

The old Bistrik Train Station, once the endpoint of a railway connecting Sarajevo and the Austrian capital Vienna, was stopped for use in the 1960s in a railway network modernization.

After reconstruction with more than two million KM (1.2 million U.S. dollars) of funds, the building is now fitted with a restaurant and a coffee shop on the ground floor, and a theme museum above dedicated to the 1970s Yugoslavian movie dubbed Walter Defends Sarajevo.

Dedicated to Sarajevo's Communist-led resistance forces in World War II, the movie was distributed in 60 countries, achieving great success in China and some European countries back in the 1970s.
