This is only possible because of the Prime Minister's commitment to deliver the largest sustained increase to defence spending since the end of the Cold War, rising to 2.5% of GDP in 2027. In a changing world, national security is a foundation of our Plan for Change. The SDR will make Britain safer and more secure, driving economic growth and higher living standards.
But this isn't just about missiles and munitions. It's about the people who serve. As a result of the Strategic Defence Review, we are investing an extra £1.5 billion in housing for military families, meaning that more than £7 billion will be spent on military accommodation in this Parliament.

We're also rebuilding Britain's military muscle with 7,000 UK-built long-range weapons and at least six new munitions factories which will mean more than 1,800 skilled jobs in every nation and region of the UK. Our increased defence spending is not only about defence – it's about bringing good jobs and growth to communities throughout the UK.
