PETALING JAYA: Police have arrested a foreigner for allegedly murdering a homeless man here.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Fakhruddin Abdul Hamid said they were alerted to the incident at around 2.50pm on Saturday (July 3).

"We received a call from a man claiming that his neighbour had come home with a wound on his face and was covered in blood," he said in a statement Sunday (July 4).

He said a police team went to the house in Kota Damansara and found the man in his 40s.

"He claimed he had gotten into a fight with a local man near a school.

"We investigated further and the man led us to the location where we found the body of a man with slash wounds to the head," he said, adding that the suspect was arrested.

He said the suspect also led police to a sickle at the scene.

"Further investigations revealed that the victim was a homeless man who lived in a shed.

"The victim has a prior record for vehicle theft while the suspect had none," he said, adding that the suspect did not have valid travel documents.

ACP Fakhruddin said the case has been classified as murder and the suspect would also be investigated for staying in the country without valid documents.

"We have remanded the suspect until July 10 to aid further investigations.

"The motive for the murder is still under investigation," he said, urging the public to come forward if they have any information on the case.

Those with information should contact Asst Supt Siti Noridah Md Ayob at 019-697 9891.
