       A TV star paramedic who almost died in a stabbing has made a miracle recovery after taking up circus classes.

       Deena Evans, 42, was knifed in the chest by a patient armed with two blades as she carried out a welfare check.

       The eight-inch knife punctured her lung and she says she would not be alive if crewmate Michael Hipgrave, 51, had not stepped in.

       Martyn Smith, 54, was jailed for nine years in April 2021 for wounding with intent after both Deena and Michael were brutally stabbed in Wolverhampton on July 6, 2020.

       Deena, who starred in the TV show Inside the Ambulance, returned to work but suffered from reduced mobility and PTSD.

       But after attending The Jewels Academy, in Dudley, West Midlands, which teaches acrobatic circus classes, the mum of three is stronger than ever.

       She now goes four times a week and is at an advanced level performing daring stunts on trapezes and -aerial hoops.

       Deena, of Willenhall, said: “I had been doing my rehab exercises each day but it was really slow going.

       “I saw these circus classes advertised. All these people were spinning on hoops and dropping down and I thought, I want to be able to do that.

       “Within six weeks I was. I never looked back and it’s just been life-changing.

       “Who knows, if the circus ever come knocking I might just run away with them.”
