A MAN in a fatal road accident has "risen from the dead" after his body was kept in a mortuary freezer for seven hours.

       Srikesh Kumar had been struck down by a motorcycle in Moradabad, India, and rushed to a local hospital where he was allegedly declared dead by doctors.

       The next morning, the 40-year-old's body was placed in a mortuary freezer for almost seven hours until family members came to sign paperwork granting an autopsy, according to local reports.

       It was then that Kumar's sister-in-law Madhu Bala noticed he was still moving.

       Moradabad hospital health chief Dr Shiv Singh said: "The emergency medical officer had seen the patient at 3 a.m and there was no heartbeat. He had examined the man multiple times.

       "Thereafter, he was declared dead but, in the morning, a police team and his family found him alive. A probe has been ordered. Our priority is now to save his life."

       He described the strange encounter as one of those "rarest of rare cases... We can't call it negligence".

       In a video that's now gone viral, Kumar's sister-in-law can be heard saying: "He's not at all dead. How did this happen? Look, he wants to say something, he is breathing."

       Kumar is now being treated at a health care centre in Meerut where his condition is said to be improving but remains unconscious.

       Bala told reporters: "We will lodge a complaint against the doctors for negligence as they almost killed Srikesh by putting him in a freezer."

       Rajenda Kumar, a hospital superintendent, said the man's recovery was "nothing short of a miracle".

       As it turns out, this is not a one-off occurrence.

       In March this year, a 27-year-old Indian man came back to life moments before he was due to be cut open in an autopsy.

       The man was thought to be dead after getting into a motorcycle crash.

       But moments before the pathologist was set to slice the man's corpse open, he saw the body move, his family told local media.

       The doctor who was preparing to carry out the post-mortem investigation said he had been informed that the man was dead, the Times of India reports.

       He said: "As per request of his family members, we visited the hospital and found that he was shaking his hands and legs. When we examined him again thoroughly, we found he was alive.

       "Now he has been admitted to a private hospital for further treatment."

       A government health officer has since confirmed this and said the injured man was then immediately taken to another hospital, where he was said to be improving.

       The official said doctors at the private hospital had exercised "bad judgement" when they removed him from the ventilator and declared he was dead.
