Dead futsal player’s dad: Why no post-mortem?

KUALA LUMPUR: The father of a deceased futsal player has questioned a hospital’s decision not to conduct a post-mortem.

Jayabalan G. Subbiah said he was informed by hospital officials that a post-mortem could not be done because his son, Sean Jayabalan, had tested positive for Covid-19.

Sean was in a car accident on Tuesday in which he was thrown out of the car. His body was found in a drain.

“I dispute the hospital’s claims that he had Covid-19 as I had acquired a lab report on the test conducted on my son which stated that he was negative,” Jayabalan said when contacted.

Jayabalan said his son was fully vaccinated and had tested frequently for the virus as he had been giving lessons to children.

Furthermore, he said there would be a standard operating procedure in conducting post-mortems on bodies that were infected.

“They have not even allowed us to identify his body. According to them, we can only identify him only through pictures,” he added.

Jayabalan had lodged police reports against the hospital.

Cheras OCPD Asst Comm Muhammad Idzam Jaafar said the accident is under investigation.
