The former Olympic swimmer, 43, has been forced to stay in South Africa since May after doctors found out she had “quite a serious” infection. The princess encountered troubles after undergoing a sinus lift and bone graft. The royal suffered with an ear nose throat (ENT) infection - leaving her unable to celebrate her tenth wedding anniversary with Prince Albert, 63, in July.

Palais Princier released a statement on Friday confirming that the royal was set to undergo surgery.

It read: "Princess Charlene will undergo an operation today, Friday, August 13, for four hours under general anaesthesia.

“Prince Albert and their children, Crown Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella will join her during her recovery period."

The news prompted an outpouring of messages from royal fans who took to social media to wish Charlene a prompt recovery.

One person tweeted: “Sending best wishes to Princess Charlene that will undergo a four hour operation tomorrow after complications from the infection that has prevented her to return home for already a couple of months.

“Let’s hope for a speedy recovery.”

Another user added: “Prayers for a successful surgery and recovery for Princess Charlene.”

A third commenter wrote: “Hope to see HSH back to full health very soon.”
