KUALA LUMPUR: A human trafficking ring has been busted following the arrest of 36 undocumented foreigners at Terminal Bas Bersepadu (TBS) here.

Immigration director-general Datuk Ruslin Jusoh said 32 men and four women were detained in the operation around 4.30pm on Aug 30.

“The foreigners arrived in Kuala Lumpur by express buses from Kota Baru, Kelantan. We believe they entered the country illegally,” he said in a statement.

A raiding team had trailed three express buses from the east coast all the way to TBS, Ruslin said.

“Once all passengers had disembarked, we moved in,” he said.

Of those detained, 20 are Bangladeshi men and 16 from Myanmar, including the four women. They are aged between 19 and 45.

Ruslin said some of the foreigners did not possess valid travel documents, and for those who did, their passports were not stamped.

“There were also those who have been blacklisted due to prior offences,” he revealed.

The syndicate responsible, which charged RM10,000 per head, had smuggled the foreigners into Malaysia via a neighbouring country, Ruslin said.

They are being held at the Immigration depot in Semenyih, Selangor.
