KUALA LUMPUR: Police have opened investigations into the Hartal Doktor Kontrak protest at Hospital Kuala Lumpur on Monday (July 26).

Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Coomm Mohamad Zainal Abdullah said the investigations were opened because no one is allowed to gather during the movement control order.

"No one is allowed to gather or take part in any assembly at any place for any reason – be it religious, social, sports, wedding or cultural reasons – without permission from the Health director-general.

"This is stipulated in Rule 10 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Regulations 2021," he said.

A group of government doctors in support of the Hartal Doktor Kontrak movement began their peaceful protest at hospitals nationwide at 11am on Monday (July 26) to push for reform of the system, which they claim hinders their career progress and offers no job security.

Checks at Hospital Kuala Lumpur, Klang's Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital, Shah Alam Hospital, Melaka Hospital and Hospital Raja Perempuan Zainab II in Kota Baru found that contract medical officers walked out of the hospitals carrying placards from 11am.

They handed over ward duties to colleagues before walking out, with some standing in the sun in hospital car parks.

An increased police presence was seen in a number of hospitals.

The Hartal protestors later returned to their duties after their demonstration.
