JOHOR BARU: A drug trafficking and smuggling syndicate has been busted with the arrest of seven people including a Malaysian and his Chinese national wife.

More than RM4mil worth of drugs have been seized.

Federal Narcotic Crime Investigation Department (NCID) director Comm Datuk Razarudin Husain said this came about after a series of raids at four houses here between Oct 21 and Oct 28.

Those arrested were between the ages of 39 and 48, he said, adding that the syndicate had been supplying drugs around Johor since the middle of this year.

“Police seized 115.1kg of syabu, 528gm of ketamine, 52.8gm of ecstasy, 91.8gm of mushroom, 10.5gm of Erimine 5 and 9.17gm of Yaba pills worth RM4.2mil,” he told a press conference yesterday.

Besides the drugs, he said police also seized a gold chain, five cars, and RM6,870 in cash.

Comm Razarudin said the 11 bank accounts belonging to the syndicate had been frozen, adding that the total seizure was valued at RM689,601.

He said the syndicate was believed to have received the drug supply from a neighbouring country.

The amount could ‘feed’ 587,222 addicts, he said.

“We believe this syndicate did not only traffic drugs for the local market but also international ones.

“The four houses that police raided were used as places to repack the drugs. Each package weighed about one kilo,” Comm Razarudin said.

He said all the suspects had previous records for drugs and crime while six of them, including the couple, tested positive for drugs.

They would be remanded until today to help with investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act, he said.
