AIZUWAKAMATSU, Fukushima -- An illumination event at Tsurugajo Castle park in this northeastern Japan city is being held to coincide with the autumn foliage season. About 600 lights -- the most yet -- will bring some extra shine to the park's trees and stone walls.
The event is organized by the Aizuwakamatsu Municipal Government every year to promote nighttime tourism. This year, in addition to the yellow and red-colored leaves on ginkgo trees and maples, the cherry blossom trees in the castle keep are illuminated. The vermilion corridor bridge between the outer citadel and the keep is also lit up.
The fall foliage will remain at its peak until around Nov. 14. The illumination event is held from sunset to 9 p.m. until Nov. 23. For inquiries, contact the municipal government's tourism division at 0242-39-1251 (in Japanese).
