KUALA LUMPUR: The Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) has channeled RM2.25mil as initial assistance to Federal Territories flood victims amid rising concerns for the situation. The move is also in line with Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s order for each agency to provide immediate assistance to the victims.

These funds are channeled through the Sentuhan Kasih MAIWP-Misi Bantuan Banjir 1.0 1.0 on Dec 23-26 at several flood victims relief centres in Kuala Lumpur.

This programme is a joint initiative of Keluarga MAIWP with the involvement of the State Islamic Religious Council and individual state zakat boards.

Both entities have come together to direct contributions to flood victims specifically in Kuala Lumpur, as well as those outside the Federal Territory.

Assistance was channeled to flood victims through the involvement of various residents associations and help from student volunteers from MAIWP’s own institutions.

A total of RM1.4mil has been generated through this programme. The items distributed for victims’ survival include personal hygiene items, medicines, house cleaning needs, electrical appliances.

Other basic necessities include pillows, blankets, towels, face masks, telekung and more, as well as financial assistance.

A further allocation of RM35mil was provided through zakat funds to be distributed as additional assistance under the Sentuhan Kasih MAIWP-Misi Banjir 2.0, as further response to the rising concern and inclusivity of helping the flood victims.

Under this mission, MAIWP will provide:

       > Assistance to flood victims outside the Federal Territory, such as Selangor, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Kelantan and Terengganu for RM10.0mil

       > Medical assistance via mobile clinics amounting to RM3.0mil

       > Home rebuilding assistance for RM3.5mil

       > Home improvement assistance for RM7.0mil

       > Repair assistance for mosques and suraus for RM1.0mil

       > Repair assistance for Maahad Tahfiz, religious primary schools and kindergartens for RM1.0mil

       > Assistance for school equipment and institutes of higher learning for RM1.0mil

       > Vehicle moratorium assistance for RM3.0mil

       > Vehicle repair assistance for RM3.0mil

       > One-off cash assistance to flood victims for RM2.0mil

       > Electrical wiring maintenance assistance for RM500,000.00.

MAIWP extends its appreciation and gratitude to all parties, including the Majlis Agama Islam Negeri, as well as zakat payers through the MAIWP Pusat Pungutan Zakat in collaborating to help flood victims in the Federal Territories.

MAIWP would also like to remind those of the Muslim faith to perform their obligations through paying zakat at www.zakat.com.my or through the MyZakat application, in order to help those who are in need.

The community is also urged to report those who suffer hardships to MAIWP via the Mobil Jejak Asnaf (MoJA) smartphone app, which assists the Skuad Jejak Asnaf Baitulmal and MAIWP in their help missions.
