MUAR: Immediate action must be taken to remove canvassing booths set up by political parties that are too near to a polling station, says Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh.
The Johor PKR chief said he saw that such booths were being set up near the Sekolah Kebangsaan Sagil Kampong polling station in the Gambir constituency.
"This is a clear offence under Section 26 of the Election Offences Act 1954," he said in a video posted on Facebook on Saturday (March 12).
The Ledang MP added that he had lodged a report with the local EC officer there.
"According to the officer, he has taken action but there are some people who are still gathering. For me, this is a bad culture," he said.
"There are some who are seated right in front of the school (polling centre). What is their intention? We can no longer canvass for votes today," he added.
He advised the authorities to take action immediately as it will be unfair to the other parties contesting in the state election.
Some 2.6 million voters are eligible to cast their ballots, including about 175,000 first-time voters aged 18 to 20.
