KOTA KINABALU: Police have obtained a seven-day remand order against a 35-year-old woman involved in a police chase across the city that saw her allegedly ramming through vehicles and roadblocks in a stolen four-wheel drive.
Kota Kinabalu City police deputy chief Supt George Abdul Rakman said they obtained a magistrate’s order to remand the local woman till Feb 21.
He said so far, two vehicle owners whose cars were allegedly hit by the woman as she sped past, have lodged police reports and more are expected to come forward.
Supt George, however, said the postman whose motorcycle was apparently hit by the woman during the chase has yet to come forward to report the incident.
The postman was seen in a viral video falling on the road after his motorcycle was hit as the woman sped out from the Likas Bay coastal road close to the roundabout.
Supt George also said they were still investigating if the woman from Kg Sembulan here had stolen the vehicle.
On Monday (Feb 14), after nearly an hour of intense chase over 15km from the city centre here to the Manggatal suburbs, police managed to smash the driver’s side window to overpower and arrest the woman at Jalan Sepanggar.
Police had earlier fired several shots towards the vehicle's tyres in a bid to immobilise it.
Supt George said a police sergeant was given outpatient treatment for minor chest injuries.
The policeman had taken a fall as the woman tried to escape by reversing the vehicle in his direction.
Police are investigating the case for attempted murder as well as other offences including vehicle theft.
The vehicle was reported stolen by the owner on Saturday (Feb 12).
