       KUWAIT CITY, March 6: In continuation of its plans to overcome the drug shortage crisis, which surfaced during the past months, the Ministry of Health has added a new title to these plans, and has approved the drugs used in the fight against chronic diseases, to provide the most appropriate health care for patients, reduce the number of patients sent overseas for treatment and protect Ministry’s general budget and public funds.

       Informed sources told Al-Qabas daily that the Ministry has recently approved a new drug used in the treatment of breast cancer, which works to improve the quality of life, especially for those suffering from an advanced stage of the disease. In its endeavor to overcome the crisis of shortage of medicines and medical supplies, which made headlines during the past months, the Ministry of Health took a new step in the way of eliminating the crisis, as informed sources revealed that the ministry registered and approved modern medicines used in combating chronic diseases, with the aim of providing the most appropriate health care for patients in facilities, reduce the number of patients sent for treatment abroad, and reduce the general budget of the ministry and the state.

       The sources told the daily that among the medicines that were approved and registered locally and started to be used with patients, is a new medicine used to treat breast cancer patients at the Kuwait Cancer Control Center and its affiliated centers, especially for those with advanced stages of the disease, so that it improves their quality of life.
