Housing minister Jim McMahon has hailed an award-winning developer's effort in the drive to build new homes. He said Legacie - crowned developer of the year in the Sunday Express construction and property awards this year - was improving the face of inner cities.

Mr McMahon spoke as he officially opened the £85 million Embankment Exchange project in Salford this week. The landmark residential scheme, comprising 301 contemporary apartments and various leisure amenities, is a major milestone in Legacie’s ambitious £1 billion investment programme across North West England over the next five years.

Embankment Exchange is set to become one of Salford’s most desirable addresses, offering residents high-specification living spaces, outstanding amenities, and easy access to Manchester city centre.

The development underlines Legacie’s status as one of the North West’s leading property developers, with a track record of delivering transformative schemes such as Parliament Square and the major redevelopment of the historic Heaps Mill in Liverpool.

Earlier this year, Legacie won the Property Developer of the Year prize at the Sunday Express awards ceremony hosted by TV presenter Kate Garraway.

Mr McMahon, minister of state at the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, said: “Good quality developments are vital for supporting strong communities and sustainable growth in our cities. It was great to tour this development and see the investment made in the area.

"The opening marks a key step in the continued regeneration of Salford and reinforces Legacie’s reputation for delivering impactful developments that contribute positively to the regeneration of key parts of the North West of England."

John Morley, Legacie's chief executive, added: “The launch of Embankment Exchange is a proud moment for Legacie and an exciting addition to Salford’s skyline. It reflects our ongoing commitment to regenerating key areas of the North West with high-quality, thoughtfully designed developments. This is just one part of our wider vision to deliver both residential and commercial projects that bring real value to local communities. It was great to showcase our work."
