French European Affairs Minister Clement Beaune told BFM TV: "They failed on Brexit. It was a bad choice. Threatening us, threatening our fishermen, will not settle their supply of turkey at Christmas." Earlier this week, French Prime Minister Jean Castex warned his country was ready to review bilateral cooperation with Britain if London continues to ignore the agreement reached over fishing rights.

       France has been left furious by the UK's refusal to grant what it considers the full number of licenses for its fishing boats to operate in British waters.

       There have been threats of retaliatory measures as the row threatens to spiral out of control.

       French fishermen have also threatened to block the northern port of Calais and Channel Tunnel rail link if the UK refuses more fishing licences.
