Nicola Sturgeon has been slammed by a Tory rival for being absent from the Parliament and rather “drinking coffees”, it has been reported.

According to the insiders, Ms Sturgeon and former First Minister of Scotland Humza Yousaf are preparing to stand down at the next Holyrood election.

However, Ms Sturgeon has been highly criticised for her fewer appearances at the Scottish Parliament since quitting in February 2023.

The pair represent neighbouring constituencies in Glasgow - Southside and Pollok - which face some of the most challenging social problems in the country.

One SNP insider told the Sunday Telegraph: "She is an absentee MSP and is simply not doing her job.

“She is hardly ever at Holyrood and when she does bother, she just sits around having coffees with her acolytes. If it carries on, opposition parties will start demanding her recall.”

Another source informed the Sunday Times that both former leaders are expected to step down in 2026, opening two seats for defeated MPs who now aim to lead the party's renewal. All six SNP MPs in Glasgow lost their seats in the General Election, with Stewart McDonald and Chris Stephens representing the corresponding areas (South and South West).

Both men are reportedly among the 20 former SNP MPs eager for a fresh start in their political careers at Holyrood.

However, a significant obstacle is the apparent lack of enthusiasm among Scottish voters, who delivered a harsh verdict on 17 years of SNP rule at the ballot box.

Scottish Conservative MSP for Glasgow Annie Wells said: "With so many other Nationalists now scrambling for a seat, Nicola Sturgeon will have to do better than her previous part-time efforts if she hopes to keep hers.

“Her attendance record in Holyrood since quitting as First Minister has been woefully low, which is not good enough for our taxpayers who expect her to raise issues on behalf of her constituents – most of which were caused by her time at the helm.

"The same could be said for Humza Yousaf, who has also been mysteriously absent from his spot in the chamber since we successfully removed him as First Minister.

“While they may be rightly embarrassed by the way their reigns came to a humiliating end, that is no excuse for Humza and Nicola to shirk their responsibilities."
