PETALING JAYA: Only the "most inhumane" will bring down a government during a pandemic in their greed for power, says PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang (pic).
He said it was "narrow-minded" for the Opposition to reject institutional and constitutional reforms in exchange for a bipartisan vote of confidence offered by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
On Thursday (Aug 12), Muhyiddin made seven offers to all MPs in exchange for a bipartisan vote of confidence to allow him to continue to lead the government.
However, the Opposition rejected all the offers.
In a statement on Sunday (Aug 15), Abdul Hadi added that politicians should choose the "humane" solution due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
"The approach of reaching out to all – regardless of the party – for the sake of solving the pandemic and crises should have been the humane solution without putting selfish and personal needs first," he said.
"The people's lives should be our priority, regardless of political belief, race or religion," added Abdul Hadi.
He said that a united effort would have stopped political friction and the struggle for power which disregards the people's safety.
"Do not prioritise the struggle for power which will bring back corruption." he said.
Abdul Hadi added that the government needed time to solve the problems being faced by the nation.
"Only when the situation permits should we return the mandate to the people to choose the government they want," he said.
