KUALA LUMPUR: Some 700 job opportunities are available under the MyLESEN Goods Driving Licence 2.0 (GDL 2.0) initiative under the Road Transport Department, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

       The Transport Minister said that the GDL 2.0 is aimed at helping logistics and transportation companies to address driver shortages in order for them to become professional movers at a time when many are affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and its economic impact.

       “The implementation of GDL 2.0 is an initiative under the aspirations of the Malaysian Family (Keluarga Malaysia) and to bolster the logistics industry and support its workforce,” he said in a statement yesterday.

       The initiative, which is launched under the Logistics and Trade Facilitation Masterplan and the National Transport Policy (DPN) 2019-2030, is now open until Dec 31, 2021, for Malaysians aged 21 and above.

       Candidates must possess a Class D or E Competent Driving Licence (CDL) and must not be blacklisted by the courts, Road and Transport Department or the police.

       Under the initiative, he said the government will subsidise part of the driving course training programme for eligible candidates to enable them to fill the vacancies in the logistics industry upon completion.

       Additionally, eligible candidates will also receive a one-off allowance of RM500.

       All registrations are subject to the stipulated terms and conditions, while driving courses will be held in selected qualified driving institute nationwide.
