GEORGE TOWN: In a bout of confusion, a woman was initially turned away at a vaccination centre allegedly for her attire, according to a report.

However, the situation was rectified after it was found that the dress code signboard was an old one used by the Northeast district health office to hold meetings at the Caring Society Complex.

China Press quoted Northeast district health officer Datin Dr Azizah Abdul Manan as saying there was no such thing as a required dress code at vaccination centres.

She told the Chinese daily that all vaccination centres do not have a dress code, and visitors should only dress modestly.

Dr Azizah said that the woman who was almost turned away was wearing a skirt at an acceptable length and that the security guards may have been too strict.

She reiterated that this is not the Northeast district health office’s policy.

Dr Azizah has since requested for the dress code signboard to be removed immediately.

"The dress code is actually from an old signboard when the building was used as Northeast district health office," she said.

On Saturday (July 17), a man tweeted that his girlfriend was denied entry into the complex in George Town following the signboard on dress code.

A twitter user who goes by the name @penangstrays sought an explanation from National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme coordinating minister Khairy Jamaluddin, the Health Ministry and Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah over the issue.

He said that his girlfriend accompanied her aunt to the vaccination centre for her vaccination appointment.

However, due to the dress code, his girlfriend was stopped at the entrance.

It is believed after speaking with the security personnel and their superiors, she was finally allowed to accompany her aunt inside.

He followed with a tweet questioning them for permitting those in “quirky attire” into the vaccination centres.

"What about the people dressed in a dinosaur costume or Donald Duck costume?" @penangstrays asked, as he questioned the need for a dress code at vaccination centres.

He then tweeted a photo of his girlfriend's attire, which showed a skirt that ended right above her knees.
