PUPILS from Tamil schools in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Penang won two gold, four silver and six bronze awards at an international innovation festival, Makkal Osai reported.
The annual World Youth Invention and Innovation Award (WYIIA) was hosted online this year by the Indonesian Young Scientists Association (IYSA) in collaboration with Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta.
Trainers R. Shanmuganathan and Surendran Gobalakrishnan said the pupils underwent about three months of training.
Despite competing with 377 teams from 35 countries, the pupils from SJK (T) Permatang Tinggi, SJK (T) Mak Mandin, SJK (T) Taman Melawati, SJK (T) Simpang Lima and SJK (T) Castlefield excelled with their innovations and presentations, they added.
The students participated in the energy, social science, technology and other categories under the elementary schools division.

V. Subramaniam was travelling by boat with his two sons when they collided with the other vessel which was carrying five fishermen.
The incident happened near the flour mill jetty in Kampung Aceh.
The two sons were rescued by the police while the Fire and Rescue Department officials along with the marine police were still looking for the father.
The five fishermen in the other boat were also safely rescued.
