A 58-year-old man in Hong Kong died after choking while eating instant noodles, China Press reported.

Identified by his surname Pan, he fainted at home while enjoying the meal on Monday.

He was rushed to hospital, but doctors could not revive him.

According to emergency medicine specialist Dr Feng Xianda, it was not common for people to choke on noodles.

However, he said those who had suffered a stroke were at a higher risk of choking as they may experience swallowing difficulties.

He warned that choking could lead to oxygen deprivation and subsequently death in just a few minutes.

       > Hong Kong singer Gillian Chung, who got divorced last year, said she was still open to love as she would like to have children of her own someday.

Chung spoke about her failed marriage during a TV interview recently in which she also paid tribute to her former in-laws, Oriental Daily reported.

She said she hopes to meet someone who has a family as nice as that of ex-husband cosmetologist Dr Michael Lai.

“Too bad there does not seem to be anyone (like that),” she quipped.

Chung, 40, married Dr Lai, who is about eight years her junior, in 2018. It was a short-lived marriage that ended in March last year.

“I married him because I liked the family,” she said, adding that her former in-laws were well-educated and that the family was a happy one.

She said she cried a lot after the divorce as she missed Dr Lai’s parents.

Although the marriage was brief, Chung said she had no regrets.

       > A school in Hong Kong got into a controversy when students were said to be traumatised after being shown video footage depicting the horror of the Nanjing massacre, Oriental Daily reported.

The students reportedly burst into tears from shock after watching videos of the execution of civilians by the Japanese and of infant corpses laid out in rows.

Parents were upset with the move by the school to show the video to mark the 84th anniversary of the massacre.

Other critics objected to the showing of violent footage to students.

The Nanjing massacre, also known as the Rape of Nanjing, occurred over six weeks starting on Dec 13, 1937, which was the day Japanese forces captured Nanjing.

In a response, the Hong Kong Education Bureau said it was not compulsory for schools to show the video but that does not mean one must deny historical facts.

It said that the video had been shown on public television and was freely available online.

According to the Education Bureau, the history of the Japanese invasion served to remind students of the hardships people endured and to teach them the value of world peace.
