KAJANG: Two motorcycle policemen in pursuit of a suspected street racer died after crashing into each other.
Sjn Mohd Arifah Md Yassin, 36 (right pic), and Kons Mohd Muradzi Mohd Nawi, 26 (left pic), were riding on the Silk Highway about 1.30am yesterday during Operasi Samseng Jalanan to clamp down on mat rempit.
Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Zaid Hassan said investigations showed that the victims – who were from the Kajang police headquarters – were pursuing the suspect.
“At KM24.4 of the highway, both victims crashed into each other during the chase.
“The area is a hotspot for illegal racing,” he said in a statement.
“Their bodies have been sent to Hospital Serdang for a post-mortem.”
It is learnt that the policemen suffered serious head injuries and both died at the scene.
Sjn Mohd Arifah was attached to the district Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department, while Kons Mohd Muradzi was from the district Criminal Investigation Department.
Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani conveyed his condolences to the families of the two policemen on behalf of Royal Malaysia Police.
“The duties of a law enforcer are full of risks and challenges, but this will not dampen our spirit to continue providing the best service to the public.
“The police will ensure that the welfare of the families of both the deceased will be looked after,” he said in a statement.
He also reminded everyone that the highway is not a place for dangerous acts that could endanger the lives of themselves and others.
