Ministry vows price stability, food availability in Ramadan

       KUWAIT CITY, March 6: Khaled Ali Al-Wataid, the Hawalli Governorate Inspection Supervisor at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, affirmed to Al-Seyassah daily the ministry’s commitment to surveying central and supermarkets across all governorates to maintain price stability and ensure food availability before Ramadan. He highlighted the intensification of inspection tours and campaigns on markets, shops, and cooperative societies during this period to meet the needs of citizens and residents during the holy month.

       During an inspection tour of the Hawalli Governorate’s Control Department, Al-Wataid revealed that the Ministry of Commerce inspectors had closed 25 commercial stores in the governorate in January and February of the current year, while reopening 24 stores during the same period. Additionally, the inspection teams issued 139 reports and 11 notices of license violations since the beginning of the year.

       Emphasizing the ministry’s dedication to monitoring market preparations for Ramadan, Al-Wataid stated that they conduct two to three rounds per week to various markets, associations, and shops in the capital’s areas, including Hawalli, Al-Shaab, Salmiya, and others, to monitor goods availability and price control. Regarding consumer complaints, Al- Wataid reported receiving about 16,941 complaints and reports in Hawalli Governorate last year and 4,633 complaints from the beginning of this year until the end of February. He assured that the ministry is accessible to consumers around the clock through the Sahel application portal, WhatsApp messaging service (55135135), and (135), and that all complaints are promptly addressed, covering various issues such as contractual violations, financial discrepancies, and delays in procedures.
