IPOH: The state police have approved about 97% of 68,464 applications for interstate and inter-district travels.

Perak police chief Comm Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said the applications were received between July 5 and Aug 10 and 66,855 had been approved.

"On Tuesday (Aug 10) alone, we received 1,338 applications and 1,313 had been approved while 25 were rejected,” he told reporters on Wednesday (Aug 11), after visiting Taman Meru 2B, which had been placed under the enhanced movement control order.

"There were various reasons for the applications, including to visit sick relatives and for work purposes.

"Since July 5, a total of 1,176,879 vehicles have been checked at roadblocks and 2,312 had been ordered to turn back," he added.

Comm Mior Faridalathrash also said since the MCO last year, the police have issued compound notices to 15,552 individuals and 388 companies for breaching Covid-19 standard operating procedures.

"We also made a total of 2,276 arrests.

"Yesterday alone, we issued compound notices to 19 individuals and two companies," he added.

On the enhanced MCO at Taman Meru 2B, Comm Mior Faridalathrash said the area comprised about 590 houses.

“There are about 2,950 residents and 87 positive cases have been reported,” he said.

The enhanced MCO in Taman Meru 2B is scheduled to end on Aug 24.

Separately, Comm Mior Faridalathrash said 116 of the 184 workers at a construction site in Fair Park here had been found positive for Covid-19.

The infection rate, he said, was about 63% and an enhanced MCO had been enforced there from Aug 8 to Aug 21.
