KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 13 men were detained for driving while intoxicated during a traffic operation in several parts of the city over the weekend.
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) chief Asst Comm Sarifudin Mohd Salleh said the blood alcohol level of those detained were beyond the permitted level.
“Those detained were aged between 28 and 50.
“We are investigating under Section 45(A) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he said when contacted.
Police also issued 3,144 traffic summonses for various offences during the operation, which was conducted at the city centre, Jalan Loke Yew, Jalan Genting Klang, Jalan Raja Laut, Jalan Tun Razak, Duke Expressway and MRR2, he added.
“A total of 35 motorcycles were also seized for illegal exhaust modifications.
“Seven men aged between 17 and 22 were detained for riding their motorcycles dangerously and performing stunts,” ACP Sarifudin said.
Kuala Lumpur JSPT will step up operations during the weekends to curb traffic offences and ensure the safety of all road users, he added.
